Routine Immunizations are Important Too

Vaccines for Covid-19 have been getting a lot of attention lately, but routine immunizations are important too. One of the best ways to keep kids healthy is to stay up to date with the vaccination and immunization schedules recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics. The board-certified and caring pediatricians at TRI-Valley Pediatrics in San Ramon and Pleasanton, CA, administer vaccines for smallpox, polio, and much more. They can ensure your children are up to date with all routine immunizations.

Importance of Vaccination & Immunization

Vaccines protect kids helping their bodies develop immunity to different types of infections. In the past, potentially deadly illnesses and diseases, such as smallpox or polio, caused severe health problems. Today, such diseases are no longer a serious threat thanks to vaccinations.

When kids are exposed to a virus for the first time, the immune system begins producing antibodies to fight the infection. Although children might be sick and experiencing a variety of symptoms, those antibodies can protect them from getting sick the next time they are exposed to the same virus.

Vaccines work by introducing an inoculated form of a virus that is too weak to make kids sick. However, the body begins producing antibodies in response to the virus, which helps build immunity. That way, if your child is ever exposed to that particular virus or infection, they will not get sick since they have developed immunity to it.

Vaccination and immunization are important. All routine vaccines have undergone years of rigorous scientific and medical testing. They are completely safe and effective, and they help save lives. At our pediatric office in Pleasanton, CA, vaccines for smallpox, polio, and all other routine immunizations are available.

Immunization Schedules

We adhere to the routine immunization schedules recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), which was developed by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). There are three main schedules outlining the doses of each vaccine and when it should be administered. There is a schedule for birth to 6 years, and one for ages 7-18 years. The third schedule is to help kids catch up who either began immunizations late or are more than a month behind the recommended timeline.

Routine immunizations are important too and you can help your child remain healthy by staying up to date with the recommended vaccines. For pediatric vaccines like smallpox or polio in Pleasanton, CA, schedule an appointment with one of our experienced pediatricians by calling TRI-Valley Pediatrics at (925) 460-8444 or at (925) 380-6230 for our San Ramon office.
