Hello! I am Amy, a pediatric nurse practitioner and certified lactation counselor here at Tri-Valley Pediatrics!
My journey to become a nurse practitioner started at an early age. My pediatrician from birth through childhood took an active and positive role in educating and engaging with me about my health. I still remember the first time she let me hear my own heartbeat through a stethoscope. Once I reached high school, I regularly shadowed her during newborn exams to learn about nursing and see if it was the right fit for me. I fell in love with the profession and hoped to emulate my pediatrician by providing that same level of care and engagement with patients of my own.
I am a proud UC Davis alumnus, where I earned my bachelor’s degree in Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior. While attending UC Davis, I volunteered at the UC Davis Children’s Hospital as a child life intern. Following UC Davis, I spent a year at the University of Tennessee earning a bachelor’s degree in Nursing. After Tennessee, I came back to California to work as a registered nurse for UCLA Mattel Children’s hospital for five years. During this time, I earned my master’s degree in Nursing through UCLA’s pediatric nurse practitioner program.
My husband and I met at UC Davis and married in 2020. We live in the tri-valley area with our golden retriever and the newest addition to our family, our son. I understand the experiences and trials of becoming a new mother. I became a certified lactation counselor for Tri-Valley Pediatrics so I can extend my expertise to help new mothers learn proper techniques and strategies to help them in their breastfeeding journey.
Outside of nursing and parenting, I like to bake breads and desserts, work on crafting and sewing projects, and play board games. My husband and I regularly attend events hosted by our local parenting group and partake in daily walks to get regular exercise. I am also an avid reader, though my recent genre of reading has mostly been children’s books.
