Types of Allergies

Leaders in Pediatric Allergies

Our team of pediatricians runs two outstanding pediatric clinics known as Tri-Valley Pediatrics in Pleasanton, CA, and San Ramon, CA.

It is challenging to pinpoint allergies in children as there are few types. We must meet with your child to diagnose and treat the type of allergy they may have.

Types of Allergies in Children

Our esteemed, experienced, compassionate, licensed, and board-certified pediatric doctors at Tri-Valley Pediatrics in Pleasanton, CA, and San Ramon are here to discuss allergies in children. Allergies can mimic illnesses such as the cold or the flu from certain germs and bacteria. However, we can look at the symptoms and the length of time your child displayed signs.

Allergy symptoms arise from the autoimmune system reacting to triggers, causing an allergic reaction to various allergens. If your child has the following responses, they undoubtedly suffer from an allergic reaction.

  • Runny or itchy nose
  • Dry Skin
  • Sneezing
  • Scratchy, red, watery eyes
  • Stuffy nose
  • Wheezing
  • Persistent Cough
  • Rash
  • Hives on the skin

A severe allergic reaction is life-threatening and is known as anaphylaxis shock. If these reactions develop, you need to call 9-1-1.

Types of Allergies

  • Dust/Dust Mites
  • Mold
  • Mildew
  • Pollen
  • Latex
  • Foods
  • Medications
  • Insect bites
  • Pet Dander
  • Pests such as the presence of rodents

To diagnose and treat allergies correctly, our doctors must complete an in-depth medical evaluation and history of symptoms. Allergy or skin testing is not painful or uncomfortable except if we test for a specific allergen and it shows a positive reaction; that skin spot becomes itchy and red for a few minutes.

First, we must determine if an allergen creates these symptoms, and you, the parent, can help us narrow down the allergen by keeping a journal of the child's symptoms and noting what you think prompted a response. We can test for that allergen possibility.

Contact our providers at their two offices of Tri-Valley Pediatrics in Pleasanton, CA, at (925) 460-8444 and San Ramon, CA at (925) 380-6230 are awaiting your call for an appointment.
